Helping those who design and build our world become better leaders

Hello, I’m Larry Beam

I am an ICF-certified executive leadership coach and registered professional engineer who draws from my experience in both these domains to partner with my clients to grow their leadership capacity, navigate transitions, and drive meaningful organizational change.

As a coach, I work with both emerging and experienced leaders to help with new leadership roles, career development, difficult conversations, and improving organizational collaboration. With over 30 years in senior leadership positions in engineering firms, my coaching strengths include helping technical leaders improve their people skills such as communication, delegation and empathy, and helping leaders balance vision and strategy with tactics and operations.

I am an Executive Leadership Coach, certified (PCC) by the International Coaching Federation. I earned my coaching certificate from Georgetown University and hold a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Penn State. I am a licensed Professional Engineer, and a LEED Accredited Professional. I am proud to have served on the Board of Trustees of the National Building Museum.

In my free time, I enjoy long walks along the river in Alexandria, VA, exploring museums and art galleries with my wife, travel, and spending time with friends and family, especially my cute little granddaughters!

What my clients say...

“Being a classic introvert, I was very nervous about my ability to succeed in my new role as president of our mid-sized architectural firm

Larry was enormously helpful in looking at specific areas of my own abilities that concerned me - asking insightful questions that not only provided an understanding of how to address these issues, but also the realization that many leaders share these exact concerns.

Larry has tremendous, highly relevant industry experience, and a very thoughtful, skillful approach to discussing leadership issues wholistically and individually. I found my time with Larry to be a very helpful, worthwhile, and enjoyable process that has proved to be useful in practice.”

President, Mid-size Architectural Firm

“Larry was highly professional, trustworthy, dependable and encouraged a high level of self-reflection and deep-thinking. Our sessions were productive and helpful to me at a critical juncture in my career. Larry is a good listener, is very patient and precise in his delivery of questions and ensuing dialogue. I appreciated that he listened attentively to my thoughts and directed me to my own solution/plan.”

Michelle W-E., Marymount University

“It was a very positive and helpful experience. Having someone to speak to about my goals and facilitate a thought process on what I would need to achieve them was tremendously helpful, and compelled me to be significantly more thoughtful in my day-to-day implementation. “

Miriam Z., WSP-USA

“Larry’s insight and experience added so much value to our sessions.  He was always great at leading me to answering questions for myself, just by guiding our conversation and asking thought provoking questions.”
